What you actually pay for

AI clippers charge for the expensive part: transcribing the video and having a model score every moment. Most price that as minutes of upload per month, some as a number of videos, and shitShorts as credits (1 credit = 1 cent). Editing, captions and exports are where tools differ most: some meter every export, some limit resolution on cheaper plans, and some put a watermark on free output

That is why the headline monthly price is a poor guide. Two tools at $15 a month can differ by three times in what a usable clip costs once you count the minutes each run uses, the clips you discard and the exports you redo

How to compare cost per clip

Take the number of clips you post in a typical month and the length of the videos you clip. Divide each plan's price by the clips it realistically yields at that volume. On shitShorts a clip uses about 20 credits, so the free 300 credits come to about 15 clips a month and the $10 Clipper plan to about 50 clips, roughly 20 cents a clip, with 1080p exports and no watermark

Then add the hidden costs: the plan you need for 1080p or 4K exports, watermark removal, how long finished clips are stored, the longest source video a plan accepts, and whether a failed run still uses your minutes or credits

Free plans and trials

A free plan you can keep using is different from a trial. As of October 2026 shitShorts (about 15 clips a month at 720p with a watermark), OpusClip, Vizard (60 minutes a month), 2short.ai, Riverside and Descript have ongoing free plans with limits, Klap gives one free video without a card, OpenShorts is free if you self-host the open-source version (its cloud has 20 free minutes), and Munch and Submagic list paid plans with a trial

Use free tiers to test on your own footage, ideally a long video with more than one person on screen, because that is where clippers differ most

Which plan fits which creator

Posting a few clips a week from one show: a free plan or the cheapest paid tier is enough. Posting daily from several long videos: price the mid tiers on cost per clip and check export resolution. Agencies and teams: look for brand kits, multiple workspaces and scheduling, because those save more time than a lower per-minute price
